DVD Subtitle Ripper for Linux

If you want to convert DVD subtitles into text format (e.g. subrip format) or VobSub format this program could be useful for you. However, it is only one tiny tool that you need in the process of producing srt files. This software depends heavily on transcode for its input and is therefore part of the transcode package (see transcode's contrib directory). So, if you want to convert some subtitles, grap a copy of the lates transcode distribution.

For srt file production the output of this program should be processed by some OCR software. Currently, I work with GOCR for this purpose.

For VobSub output no other tools are required.

Download

My first intention was that I will not release any separate package of this software because you will automatically find new releases in the transcode tree whenever I think that this could be useful to the enduser. In this way I try to ensure the compatibility of the two programs. However, some users prefer to download this package separately and so I try to provide useful releases with the normal Sourceforge release system. If you are bold enought to use the current CVS snapshot feel free to do so (but don't complain to loud if anything is broken). You will find the most recent files in the projects CVS Repository. The projects CVS page gives information about the cvs commands to apply.

Installation and Documentation

Currently, there is an english README describing the installation and the usage of the software that you will find in the subtitleripper source directory. If you still have any questions left after reading the documentation or you think that the provided documentation is insufficient, inaccurate or otherwise not up to your needs drop me a line.

Questions

Source Forge provides a discussion forum for every project. Please address any questions to this forum. If you don't get an answer within some days write to driescher(at)mpi-magdeburg(dot)mpg(dot)de.
